The London Eye operates year-round with extended summer and weekend hours and shorter weekday hours from autumn to spring. It closes only on Christmas Day and for an annual two-week maintenance window in January. Last admission is typically 30 minutes before closing time. As a working observation wheel, the Eye can also close for safety in high winds — these closures are usually short and we automatically rebook or refund affected riders. Hours, holidays, and last admission

Is the London Eye open every day?
Almost — daily except Christmas Day (25 December) and the two-week annual maintenance closure each January. In 2026 the maintenance window is Monday 5 January to Sunday 18 January. The wheel can also close at short notice for high winds.
What time is the last admission?
30 minutes before official closing. So in summer (10:00–20:30) last admission is 20:00; on weekday autumn evenings (11:00–18:00) last admission is 17:30. The last 4D Cinema show runs around 15 minutes before that.
Are weekday and weekend hours different?
Yes — from September to May, weekdays are 11:00–18:00 while weekends are the longer 10:00–20:30 summer hours. From June to August everything runs daily 10:00–20:30. English school holidays often extend the weekday hours.
When is the annual maintenance?
Two weeks in early January each year. In 2026 the wheel is closed from Monday 5 January through Sunday 18 January (inclusive) for engineering checks, capsule servicing and the annual lighting refresh. The Eye reopens on Monday 19 January.
What about Christmas and New Year?
Closed on Christmas Day (25 December) only. Open with extended hours on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day (26 December) and through to New Year's Eve — the Eye is the centrepiece of London's New Year fireworks display, with thousands of rockets fired from the wheel itself at midnight (rides do not run during the show).
Does bad weather stop the wheel?
Rarely. Capsules are sealed and air-conditioned, so light rain and snow have no effect. The wheel closes for safety in winds above ~35 mph (around Force 7 on the Beaufort scale). Closures are usually short and we automatically refund or rebook affected slots free of charge.
How long can I stay onsite once I've scanned in?
The timed slot only governs your wheel boarding — you can arrive 15–30 minutes early and use that time for the 4D Cinema, the gift shop and a quick photo on the South Bank. After your ride, you can take as long as you like leaving the site.
